TRAVELER NOTES

Every journey begins with a question — especially when you’re heading somewhere new, lush, and tucked into the heart of Colombia’s Coffee Axis. This Q&A was created to help you feel fully prepared for your stay at Selva Vista, from practical details to insider insights about safety, weather, transportation, and what life is really like in Cerritos and the greater Pereira region. Think of this as your guide, shaped by the most common questions mindful travelers ask before arriving in our corner of nature.

SAFETY

Is the Coffee Axis / Pereira safe for visitors?

Yes. The Coffee Axis is known as one of Colombia’s safer regions, especially Cerritos and the surrounding countryside. As with any destination, we recommend standard awareness—use trusted transportation at night and keep valuables discreet—but most travelers describe the area as calm, welcoming, and comfortable.

Can I travel there solo, as a couple, or with a group?

All three work beautifully. Solo travelers appreciate the stillness and nature, couples love the privacy and views, and groups enjoy the variety of experiences from coffee farms to hot springs.

Is the region safe for solo female travelers?

Yes. Solo female travelers often report feeling secure in this region. The towns are warm and people are helpful. Normal precautions—daytime arrivals, licensed taxis, and avoiding isolated roads at night—go a long way.

Is Pereira / the region too touristy?

Not at all. While Salento is popular, many areas around Pereira and Cerritos still feel authentic and rooted in local life. You can easily avoid crowds and enjoy a slower, more local rhythm.

TRANSPORT & ACCESS

How easy is it to reach the region / what’s the closest airport?

Matecaña International Airport (PEI) in Pereira is the closest airport—just a 30min drive from Selva Vista. Direct domestic flights arrive from Bogotá, Medellín, Cartagena, and beyond. We can arrange a private transfer for stress-free arrival.

What about transport / getting around?

Main roads are smooth and well-maintained. Some rural or scenic routes may be narrow or unpaved, so a private driver or 4×4 can make exploration easier. Our concierge can help coordinate all transportation.

Will the roads be difficult / is transport an issue?

Most are easy to navigate. Only certain mountain or dirt roads can be bumpy after rain. If you prefer ease and comfort, we suggest choosing black-car service or guided transportation.

connectivity

Will I have reliable internet and mobile connectivity?

Yes. WiFi and mobile data are strong in Cerritos, Pereira, and most attractions. Certain deep nature areas may have reduced signal, but Selva Vista offers reliable, guest-ready connectivity.

Can I work remotely from here (digital-nomad friendly)?

Absolutely. Our studios are designed to offer a peaceful remote-work base, with strong WiFi, natural light, and inspiring views.

Is English widely spoken or will language be a barrier?

Basic English is common in tourism settings, though Spanish is the main language. We can assist with reservations and communication if needed.

WEATHER, PACKING & ALTITUDE

What's the best time of the year to visit?

The region is beautiful year-round. The dry seasons (December–March and July–August) offer the clearest skies. Rain showers are brief and keep the scenery lush.

Are there altitude concerns?

Not typically. Selva Vista sits at a comfortable mid-altitude. Only higher-elevation hikes (like Los Nevados) may require light acclimatization.

What kind of weather should I expect?

Mild Andean-tropical weather: warm days, fresh mornings and evenings, and occasional light rain. Layers are ideal.

What should I pack?

Comfortable layers, walking shoes, a light jacket, sunscreen, and rain protection. If you enjoy birdwatching, our studios come equipped with binoculars.

HEALTH & MEDICAL

Are there medical facilities nearby?

Yes. Pereira has excellent medical clinics and hospitals. Rural areas are more limited, but you’ll always be within a short drive of high-quality care
